I leave the shutter open over the night landscape, with minimal intervention, and what the camera records is the time that passed inside it.
This is the contemplative pole of my work. Night landscape and open sky, with minimal intervention: the light adds little and reveals what was already there. The shutter stays open, and what the camera records is not a scene, it is the time that passed inside it.
The titles say where the eye was turned: Firmamento (Firmament), Via Láctea (Milky Way), Rastro de Estrelas (Star Trail), Lua Nascente (Rising Moon). When light comes in, it comes in sparingly. For a lone tree in the dark of a country property, the flashlight flew on a drone around the crown, and the tree became everything in the frame. On a deserted beach, a single green line streaks the sand, with the city glowing in the distance behind the coconut palms.
The oldest work in the portfolio is here: Refúgio (Refuge), from 2009, the year I began drawing with light. The series gathers 10 works, from 2009 to 2024.
