I write with light the way one writes by hand: line, calligraphy, gesture. Flashlight, sparks and steel wool last only seconds; the long exposure turns that movement into a permanent drawing. What stays in the image is the whole path the hand traveled.
In 2014 I drew calligraphies against a black ground, with no setting and no person, and there the gesture itself became the subject. The ground is not always dark and empty. In Passarela (Walkway), I swung an LED staff along a sand road in Piracanga, and it left a golden path on the ground. In Caligrafia (Calligraphy), I reversed the gesture: the light stayed still and I moved the camera, so the camera did the writing. In Linha (Line), a single stroke of white light crosses the horizon and reveals the texture of a rock.
All of them were made in a single exposure, with no digital compositing. The series gathers 25 works, from 2012 to 2023.
